May We Fast On The Tashreeq Days?

The answer is yes, we may and no, we may not. It depends on our conditions. Tashreeq or Tasyrik is the next three days after Id al-Adha/Eid_al-Adha, Greater Eid (on the 10th day of the 12th and the last Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah of the lunar Islamic calendar). So, the tasreeq days are the 11th, 12th, and 13th, on Dhu al-Hijjah of the lunar Islamic Calender.

If we are in the condition as Allah states in surah Al Baqarah, verse 196, (i.e. perform the Hajj), we are recommended to fast because of unusual conditions.

"And perform properly (i.e. all the ceremonies according to the ways of Prophet Muhammad pbuh), the Hajj and 'Umrah (i.e. the pilgrimage to Makkah) for Allah. But if you are prevented (from completing them), sacrifice a Hady (animal, i.e. a sheep, a cow, or a camel) such as you can afford, and do not shave your heads until the Hady reaches the place of sacrifice. And whoever of you is ill or has an ailment in his scalp (necessitating shaving), he must pay a Fidyah (ransom) of either observing Shaum (fasts) (three days) or giving Sadaqah (charity-feeding six poor persons) or offering sacrifice (one sheep). Then if you are in safety and whosooever performs the 'Umrah in the month of Hajj, before (performing) the Hajj, (i.e. Hajj-at-Tamattu' and Al-Qiraan), he must slaughter a Hady such as he can afford, but if he cannot afford it, he should observe Saum (fasts) three days during the Hajj and seven days after his return (to his home), making ten days in all. This is for him whose family is not present at Al-Masjid-Al-Haraam (i.e. non-resident of Makkah). And fear Allah much and know that Allah is Severe in punishment."

If we do not perform Al Hajj, we are not allowed to observe fasting On The Tashreeq Days. Shahih Bukhari 1859 :

"Not allowed to fast on the day of Tashreeq except for those who do not get the sacrifice animal (Al Hadyu) when Hajj".

"Indeed, The Tashreeq Days is a day to eat, drink and dzikrullah"
(H.R. Muslim)
